Claddagh Ring

The most famous piece of Celtic jewelry is a ring designed with two hands holding a heart adorned with a crown. The Claddagh ring's motto– “let love and friendship reign” – can be easily drawn from its design. Wearing the ring in different ways could have different meanings. Wearing the ring on your left hand would mean that you are into a lifelong commitment. Having the ring on your right could also signify two different things depending on where the heart is facing. If the wearer is in search of true love, then the heart should face outward. Otherwise, the heart should be worn facing inward. This signifies that the wearer is already in love.

The Claddagh ring with stone, the heart stone and pearl stone are variations of the Claddagh ring.

As its name implies, the Claddagh ring with stone has a stone at the centre of the heart. The stone in the middle, when heart-shaped, would be classified as heart stone Claddagh ring. A pearl incorporated in the centre is known as the pearl heart.

It has been tradition to pass on the Claddagh band from mother to daughter during the latter's wedding. The ring's shape and the Celtic knot share the same symbolism which is eternity.

In choosing your ring, it is good to know the many symbolisms that lie behind each design.
