Kinds of Earrings

Clip-on - For people who do not fancy the idea of having a needle poked through their earlobes, but still want to be able to wear earrings, the clip-on kind is the solution to this dilemma. These earrings attach to the lobe by a clamp-like hold or a spring. However, there are fewer styles for clip-on earrings because ear piercing is mainstream.

Pierced - For people with pierced ears, more choices are available to them. Most earrings made nowadays are designed with a wire going through the earlobe hole. The wire is either --- bent to prevent it from slipping off the ear; or stopped with a screw or some form of retainer.

Pierced earrings are the more popular kind. The following is a list of the common styles of pierced earrings:

Stud - a stud is looks like it is pasted on the earlobe. It is usually attached to a post that goes through the lobe hole. Stud earrings are often used for a simple and minimalist look.

Hoop - this style is characterized by a ring-shaped wire hanging from the lobe. However, hoop earrings can come in shapes other than circle such a star, heart, square, polygon, etc. As long as it is a wire (plastic, metal, or other kind of material) bent into a closed shape, it is usually considered a hoop.

Dangle - earrings of this style hang freely from the lobe, creating a dangling and sweeping effect. Chains and beads are usually part of the design, and thus this style is often used for a more dramatic statement. Chandelier earrings are considered dangles.
