From 1900s to the 1940s, it became the preferred metal for wedding and engagement rings.
- Platinum as metal setting was introduced by Louis Cartier, utilising it in most of his creations for the rich, famous and the royalty.
- Hope and Star of Africa, considered as the world's most famous diamonds, are set in platinum.
- Platinum had been widely used for military applications during World War II at the same time its non-military use had been banned.
