About Silver Jewelry

Of all known metals, nothing evokes much mystery and romance as silver. This beautiful, bright and shiny metal has been the fodder of folklore for centuries. From being the sole solution to roving lycanthropes to being the bullet of choice of a particular masked defender or justice, silver is at the center of it all. In modern times though, since there is almost no more evil to ward off, both literally and figuratively, silver is now most commonly used as the main component of jewelries and ornamentation.
Because silver is relatively an affordable metal, its low cost makes it the ideal material for jewelries. However, since pure silver is very soft, another metal must be added on to it in order to increase its durability and strength. Copper or zinc are most commonly used but copper is more preferred. Experiments done in the past have proven that using copper is better. Copper improves on the silvers hardness without adversely affecting its color and sheen.
Although silver jewelry may be readily purchased anywhere, countries such as the USA , Canada , Mexico , Australia and Germany are known to produce quality pieces.
